‘Looks like he’s playing Peekaboo.’ See Florida cops handle a wild animal from attic
“A little rescue tale to start your day.”
Florida’s Martin County Sheriff’s Office provided a bright spot on Thursday with a sweet post.
Deputies saved a raccoon trapped in an attic in the Stuart area.
A picture of the cute thing, which the agency nicknamed Meeko, is on the sheriff’s Facebook page. He is being held by Chief Deputy John Budensiek, who is trying to calm the baby in his hands as he awaits a ride to a wildlife refuge.
“Meeko is safe and headed to a place where he can grow strong and confident enough to be on his own,” said the post.
In the photo, Meeko, which couldn’t be more than two feet long, is covering both eyes with its tiny black paws.

The post says that baby raccoons typically cover their eyes when they are scared to block out visual stimuli.
“He would lift a hand and peek out occasionally,” said the agency.
“He didn’t want to be identified!” joked one social media user.
“Looks like he’s playing Peekaboo.”

Others lapped up the story of this furry bugger and thanked the Martin sheriff’s office for its effort.
“We used to have pet raccoons when we were kids. They are fascinating and smart. I’m glad this little one is safe.”
“Thank you for taking the time, effort and energy to coexist with our neighbor species. We are all in this together and he just lost his way. Sounds like he didn’t mean to hurt anybody.”
“And now I need a baby raccoon in my life!”
