A boogie-boarder was attacked by a shark at this Florida beach. So she fought back
A Miami woman had a violent run-in with a shark Thursday morning off New Smyrna Beach, The Daytona Beach News Journal first reported.
The unidentified victim, 50, was boogie-boarding around 11 a.m. when the attack occurred, Tamra Malphurs, spokeswoman for Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue, told the outlet.
Malphurs said the woman hopped off her board when the shark bit her left leg and she attempted to kick it away. Then it bit her again, this time on the ankle.
Officials were unable to find the shark after the incident, Click Orlando reported.
The boogie boarder’s injuries were not life threatening, Mulphurs said. The shark’s condition and type are unknown.
