Suspect arrested in a triple shooting that killed a 21-year-old. Social media helped

Seven and a half months after a drive-up, triple-shooting left one 21-year-old dead in a Lake Worth backyard, another 21-year-old faces charges.

The first 21-year-old is David Goodman. The second is Alan Asbury.

Asbury was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of second-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of shooting from a vehicle and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent (he had some legal issues in his juvenile days). There’s no bond for him.

An arrest report says surveillance cameras and social media helped point Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigators at Asbury, but nobody thinks he acted alone. The report says investigators believe Clarence Kelley, Asbury’s brother; Derian Williams; and Emmanuel Yisreal also were involved. Yisreal was arrested Tuesday and bonded out Wednesday in an unrelated fraud case.

Somebody had to be driving what witnesses described as a gray Nissan down the alley behind the 900 block of South G Street the afternoon of Sept. 29. Witnesses and victim James Edwards described the Nissan stopping before a carport and, people on the passenger side firing handguns into a parked car with Edwards and Goodman inside.

Edwards, Goodman and Jean Cajuste were hit multiple times. Edwards said he didn’t know if they were the intended targets or if they were just collateral damage.

Casings for 40- and 45-caliber bullets were found in the alley and 45-caliber casings were found in a gray Nissan that got burned in Riviera Beach the next day.

Cops go to the video

Surveillance video from Sept. 29, the report says, shows Asbury coming out of his house and getting into a black Cadillac. The Cadillac left the development with a gray Nissan. The cars roll into Lake Worth Beach around 2:16 p.m. Around 2:26 p.m., the Nissan is seen on Ninth Avenue South between South G Street and South F Street.

Two minutes later, it’s on video with several people inside leaving the alley after the shooting. It heads back to the area where the Cadillac was last seen. The two cars roll together until the Nissan is taken to the area where a burned Nissan would be found the next day.

The report says, confronted with video stills, Asbury admitted to being in both cars but said he was just in the neighborhood to buy marijuana. Confronted with a text message to a cousin, “Look up a Glock 23c, I just brought it fah 300,” from two days before the shooting, Asbury admitted he had the gun but somebody stole it from him the very same day he bought it.

But, the report says, Asbury posted in an Instagram message “I got dis” as the caption to a photo of a Glock 23c in his lap on Oct. 2 and in a Dec. 22 Instagram message “Glock 23c I’m tryna trade.”

An analysis of the 45-caliber casings found at the scene said the gun was most likely a Glock. The 40-caliber casings likely were from a Smith & Wesson Sigma, Springfield Armory or ... a Glock.
