Miami meat maker recalls 5 products — 4 of them sold at Publix — after listeria is found

A Miami meat processor recalled 9,330 pounds of pork products that might contain listeria, the USDA announced Thursday night.

The five meats recalled by Don Novo & Son were sold under the Don Novo brand in retail stores throughout Florida. Friday, Publix announced the four recalled Don Novo meats sold at its stores.

A State of Florida testing of a food sample found listeria — which infects about 1,600 in the United States each year and kills about 260 people. Listeria’s worst consequences usually hit people over 65, pregnant women and children under 5 and newborns.
