A Fort Lauderdale firm recalled 4,500 pounds of Italian food from stores and restaurants
Fort Lauderdale’s Mrs. Pasta had to recall 4,544 pounds of Italian food sent to Florida restaurants and stores after the USDA learned about the “frozen meat products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.”
The federal agency learned about this from the Florida Department of Agriculture, which inspected Mrs. Pasta’s facility at 220 SW 31st St. on Sept. 26.
Along with noting “there is no documentation to show compliance with FDA Food Facility registration requirements,” the state inspection said, “the establishment moved and did not submit an application for a food permit before beginning operations at the new location.”
The USDA’s recall notice says when the agency’s Food Safety Inspection Service checked on what the Ag Department noticed, FSIS “observed meat pasta products labeled with the USDA mark of inspection but with an establishment number for another facility. FSIS determined that the firm produced the meat pasta products without the benefit of federal inspection.”
Mrs. Pasta had been at 132 SW Third Ave. in Dania Beach until its move to Fort Lauderdale.
What’s recalled, all of which have production dates from Aug. 1, 2023, to Oct. 11, 2023, and “EST. 45764” in the USDA mark of inspection.
