An inspector counted 64 rodent droppings, 27 of them from rats, at a Broward restaurant
Some inspections pile all the rodent poop together. But, the state inspector who visited Sunrise’s Ten Ten Seafood and Dim Sum Restaurant separated regular rodent droppings from rat droppings in the inspection report.
The 64 pieces of rodent regularity did the most to help the restaurant at 10101 Sunset Strip fail inspection on Wednesday, although there were 15 other violations, three of which were also High Priority violations. The inspection was sparked by a complaint, according to the online inspection report by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation.
Aside from mice and rats apparently using the restaurant as an outhouse, the inspector saw:
▪ An “accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine/bin.”
▪ A “walk-in cooler with an accumulation of black mold-life buildup” next to the cooler door. Also, a reach-in cooler’s gasket had an “accumulation of black, mold-like debris.”
Now, to the poop pellets.
Classified as “rodent droppings,” there were the 15 on metal table and shelves at the front counter; nine on a pipe next to a front counter handwash sink; and 13 inside a deep fryer drawer at the front counter.
Described as “rat droppings” were one under an oven; two behind a dough mixer; two under a stand across from the stove; three in a storage area; four on the floor next to a food prep sink; and 15 next to and under the three-compartment sink.
Ten Ten was five by five after cleansing their place of rodent activity evidence before Thursday’s re-inspection.
