Cookies and cakes (Nutella cookie cake, too) recalled in Florida and 20 other states
Pumpkin Spice Cookie Bundt Cake, Brown Butter Rice Crispy Treats and Nutella cookie cakes are among 27 desserts from Chocolate and the Chip that have been recalled after multiple packaging mistakes endangered many who live with food allergies.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to specific type of allergens run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the company-written, FDA-posted recall alert states.
The allergens involved: milk, wheat, soy, tree nuts, almonds, and sulfites. The Brown Butter Rice Crispy Treat, Chocolate and Confetti varieties only have undeclared milk. Each of the other 25 desserts, which the recall alert lists in a table, have more than one undeclared allergen.
“The recall was initiated after it was discovered that baked good products containing the allergens of wheat, milk, soy, and tree nuts were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of said allergens,” the alert says. “Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a mistake made on the owners behalf and not having the proper protocol for distributing and labeling baked goods under the proper regulations.”
These went to Florida, California, Texas, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
If you have these sweets and there’s no chance someone with a food allergy will eat them, enjoy. If there is a chance, return them to the store of purchase for a full refund.
