The American Freedom Tour event is Trump’s second large-scale appearance in Florida this month since he delivered his keynote speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, in Orlando. Leading talks at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise on Trump’s agenda are his son, Donald Trump Jr., and a core group of allies: Candace Owens, Dan Bongino, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Arizona Sheriff Mark Lamb.

The event is happening as Gov. Ron DeSantis, who hasn’t shied away from speculation that he’ll run for president, has been crisscrossing the state touting his own agenda in his reelection campaign. Recent statewide polls suggest Republican voters in Florida still favor Trump as the 2024 presidential nominee, even as DeSantis is trailing close behind. Without Trump on the ballot, a straw poll of 2,574 CPAC attendees in early March also showed DeSantis was the preferred Republican candidate.

Trump has been touring different states to stump for his preferred GOP candidates, blast President Joe Biden on inflation and rail against his political enemies. Taylor Budowich, Trump’s communications director, said the former president would discuss Saturday “the critical issues facing America and the world, while also laying out how his America First agenda provides both a vision and actionable solutions to Save America.”

The event is likely to energize Republican voters in South Florida.

“Florida welcomes the American Freedom Tour to the Sunshine State, validating our status as a beacon of freedom to the rest of the nation,” Helen Aguirre Ferré, the executive director of the Republican Party of Florida, said in an email.

The event, hosted by the private event company American Freedom Tour, has tickets that are selling for up to $5,995 and can include special features like meet and greets with speakers, including Trump, and a private roundtable discussion. Juliet Murdock, an organizer of the event, said in an email that their business promotes “American Conservatism” and that the speakers receive “nothing besides a speaking fee.”

“Ticket fees go towards paying the speakers to be there and the cost of putting on this event,” Murdock said.
