A 6-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at a Sam’s Club as her family stood just feet away, according to investigators in Northern Virginia.

It happened around 11:45 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Sam’s Club in Woodbridge, and a 21-year-old suspect has been arrested, the Prince William Police Department said in a July 16 news release.

“The investigation revealed the victim, a 6-year-old girl, was shopping in the store with her family when she was approached by an unknown man,” police said.

“While the victim’s mother was turned away, the accused inappropriately touched the victim. The victim’s mother confronted the (man) who left the business and was last seen getting into a vehicle.”

A tag number for the vehicle was used by police to get the owner’s address, leading to a home in Woodbridge’s Brooke Farm subdivision, officials said.

Justin Van Nguyen, 21, was arrested at the home and charged with aggravated sexual battery, police said.

Investigators did not report the girl being injured during the encounter.

Woodbridge is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Washington D.C.
