A woman sleeping with her grandchild awoke in the middle of the night to find a man crawling into their bed, according to investigators in West Virginia.

It happened early Monday, Feb. 10, near Ripley, and the victim says the man assaulted her when confronted, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said in a Feb. 11 news release.

Deputies say the suspect, 40-year-old Adam Watson, was still at the home when they responded to a 911 call.

“He broke into a home and climbed in bed with a woman and a 2-year-old grandchild and sexually assaulted the adult female,” the sheriff’s office said.

“Upon fleeing the bedroom, Watson was located behind the residence in the backyard, underneath the same aforementioned bedroom window.”

Watson is charged with burglary and second-degree sexual assault, a felony that covers non-consensual sexual contact through force, officials said.

The suspect also lives in Ripley, about a 35-mile drive northwest from Charleston.
