A Louisiana man died after he was beaten in the street and run over by two passing vehicles, deputies said.

Authorities responded to reports of the crash at about midnight May 23 in Lake Charles, where they found a man — identified as 42-year-old Gene Hill, Jr. — had been fatally struck, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a May 25 Facebook post.

Before the crashes, Hill was riding in a car with 43-year-old Tonnisha Mitchell when an argument broke out, deputies said. Mitchell stopped the car and both of them got out, then Mitchell hit Hill in the head and body with a bat, according to deputies.

She drove away after Hill fell on the ground, deputies said.

Witnesses told investigators Hill couldn’t get up and was hit by two passing cars, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said Mitchell tried to destroy evidence after the incident.

She was arrested and charged with second-degree battery and manslaughter, deputies said, adding that a bond had not been set.

Lake Charles is about a 125-mile drive southwest from Baton Rouge.
