A “resilient” dog “has been through so much” — and now, she will need a new home.

“Her previous family loved her deeply and did everything they could to care for her, but after facing unimaginable hardships, they had to make the difficult decision to surrender her so she could get the help she needed,” a Florida animal shelter wrote Nov. 14 on Facebook. “While Cleo may be underweight and her ribs are visible, her spirit is anything but broken.”

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay said it has been caring for Cleo after her family couldn’t keep her anymore. Photos show she arrived thin and hungry but has started her path toward recovery.

“This sweet girl radiates happiness and love, showing us all what true resilience looks like,” the shelter wrote. “She’s now on the mend here getting the nourishment and medical care she deserves.”

Cleo is described as a 1-year-old mixed-breed pup who’s loving and happy. She’s expected to be available for adoption soon, possibly in late November, Regan Blessinger, marketing and content manager for the shelter, told McClatchy News in an email.

“Soon, she’ll be ready to find her forever family — one that will help her continue to thrive and show her the love she’s always known,” the humane society wrote on Facebook.

Details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at humanesocietytampa.org.
