Man drags 94-year-old woman through pharmacy as he robs her, Pennsylvania officials say
A man accused of violently robbing a 94-year-old woman inside a pharmacy has been charged, Pennsylvania officials announced.
Janhyi Boyd, 20, of Philadelphia was charged Nov. 4 with robbery, assault, recklessly endangering another person and evading arrest, court records show. Attorney information for Boyd was not available.
Officials said on Oct. 17, after coming from the gym, 94-year-old Jennie Pringle was in line at a Rite Aid pharmacy in Germantown when Boyd tried to “wrestle” her purse out of her hands, according to a Nov. 12 news conference held by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant District Attorney and supervisor of the district attorney’s Elder Justice Unit Alexander Blumenthal said Pringle held onto her purse “until she was literally pulled out of her chair.”
Investigators said as Boyd dragged Pringle across the floor, an envelope with $42 cash fell out of her purse, WCAU reported.
In an interview with WTXF, Pringle said she got up, walked up to Boyd, and said “Give me my bag back.”
He took the money and fled but was apprehended shortly after and Pringle’s money was returned to her, Blumenthal said. Pringle sustained some minor injuries, according to officials.
Boyd is being held at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center. His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 15, court records show.
