Teen shoots boyfriend in the groin over suspected flirting at work, Arkansas cops say
An Arkansas teenager was arrested after police said she shot her boyfriend in the groin during an argument over flirting.
The 16-year-old was charged Nov. 8 with first-degree domestic battery and harassing communications, court records show.
Officers with the Rogers Police Department were notified Oct. 28 by Mercy Hospital staff that a person was admitted for a gunshot wound to the groin, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The victim told police his girlfriend was upset with him because she believed “he was flirting with females at his new job,” court records show.
Police learned she then pulled a 9mm pistol out of her purse, aimed it at her boyfriend, then pulled the trigger, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The victim said he noticed a bullet hole in his pants and blood coming out. He called his mother, who took him to the hospital, authorities said.
While police met with him at the hospital, they noticed he was getting text messages from his girlfriend’s number stating she committed suicide, court records show.
Police found the teen at her home and a makeup bag with a 9mm-caliber bullet inside sitting on her bed, according to authorities.
In an interview, the girl told police she purchased the handgun and that she had gotten into a fight earlier that day with her boyfriend, records show.
She told authorities her boyfriend called her derogatory names during the fight, adding that she “did not know how to control her anger,” so she shot him, according to court records.
She is due back in court Dec. 16, records show.
Rogers is about a 210-mile drive northwest from Little Rock.
