Puppies dumped from SUV now up for adoption, Georgia cops say. Man and woman charged

Two people are accused of dumping German shepherd mix puppies out of an SUV in Georgia. Now the dogs are looking for new homes, officials said.

The passenger in the SUV was captured on security camera July 8 throwing the dogs out of the backseat and leaving them at a church, according to the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office and Haralson County Animal Shelter.

The shelter rescued the dogs, estimated to be 3-4 months old, and they were put up for adoption, deputies said.

A member of a local church reported the abandoned puppies July 16, and the sheriff’s office began an investigation that led to the arrests of 56-year-old John Williams and 49-year-old Marie Crowder, deputies said in a July 24 news release.

Investigators identified the passenger and questioned him, then the driver came forward voluntarily, deputies said. Each faces four counts of cruelty to animals and one count of abandonment of animals, records show.

Their attorneys’ information was not available in Haralson County court records.

One dog has found a home, but three were still up for adoption July 25, according to the shelter.

“One of our German Shepherd pups got adopted today,” the shelter announced on Facebook on July 24. “We still have 3 more of these little angels if anyone is in the market! And thank you to this little loves new mom for giving her a chance.”

The Haralson County Animal Shelter said the suspects couldn’t have been arrested without the community’s help.

“Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end of the dumped puppy trend in this county,” the shelter said.

Haralson County borders Tennessee and is about a 55-mile drive west from Atlanta.
