‘Underground’ house listed in Massachusetts gives Zillow Gone Wild ‘shire’ vibes
Some houses on the real estate market get attention for all the wrong reasons. Then there are those with a funky vibe that are really downright “cool” — at least in the eyes of a popular Facebook page.
A home with those vibes has listed for $640,000 in Princeton, Massachusetts, thanks to its uniqueness.
“This truly one-of-a-kind, earth-sheltered home atop a private winding driveway into the woods, looks like it was lifted straight out of a James Bond movie,” the listing on Zillow.com describes. “The energy efficiency would make Q proud, with natural cooling in the summer, and the massive earthen berms insulating during the colder months.”
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom house has a charming, yet minimal-like interior with concrete throughout its 2,760 square feet. While that would normal give houses a cold sort of feeling, this home evades that.
“Behind a pair of massive custom sliding doors you’ll discover a gourmet kitchen that features granite counters, double wall ovens, and an oversized Sub-Zero fridge for all your entertaining needs,” the listing says. “The living room boasts a clear span of 30 feet across, room enough to serve as banquet, dance hall, or an evil genius secret laboratory.”
The home caught the eye of Facebook page Zillow Gone Wild, whose fans were fascinated by the home.
“I quite like it, but it has an air of the very first underground lair of a downmarket Bond villain about it,” one fan joked.
“This is a beautiful home and make great environmental sense, less heating and cooling energy,” another beamed.
“Won’t have to worry much if a tornado is nearby,” another observed.
“The Shire has gotten pretty industrialized,” one fan joked, making a “Hobbit” reference.
“My elementary school was underground like this,” another said. “Great for sledding…”
“Love this!!!!” one fan exclaimed. “I live in Alabama where we have an abundance of tornadoes trying to get you. This house would help me win hide and seek with them for sure!”
“100% I would love there,” another gushed. “My own hobbit house!”
