Groom accused of hiding evidence of best man’s murder at wedding, Louisiana cops say

A man has been arrested in connection to the murder of his best man at his 2018 wedding, according to police.

Christopher Jerome Sterling, 43, was arrested on Tuesday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for “obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact for second degree murder,” WAFB9 reported.

Byron Jenkins, 36, died from gunshot injuries in January 2018, according to The Advocate.

A 23-year-old woman also sustained non-life threatening injuries in the shooting, the outlet reported.

Police said Sterling held his “wedding after-party” at Sterling and Sterling Detail Shop in 2018, and Jenkins had been the best man at his wedding, according to WBRZ. Police said Sterling told them his surveillance system wasn’t working at the time of the shooting and he didn’t see what happened, the outlet reported.

Detectives got tips that the cameras were working and Sterling took the DVR box to hide the identity of the gunman, WAFB9 reported. In May 2019, police received pictures of Jenkins inside the building before his death with the cameras working, according to WBRZ.

Police said the person who shot Jenkins is a friend of Sterling’s, WAFB9 reported.
