‘I hate white people.’ Woman investigated for hate crime in bus attack, Oregon cops say
A woman is being investigated for possible hate crimes after Portland police said she attacked another woman at a bus stop., allegedly telling her that “I hate white people.”
Nimo Jire Kalinle, 42, was arrested and faces charges of fourth-degree felony assault, first-degree felony intimidation, intimidation in the second degree and interfering with public transportation, according to jail records.
She pleaded not guilty on Monday, Fox12 Oregon reported.
Kalinle allegedly attacked Jane Jordan after getting off a bus on Jan. 19, The Oregonian reported.
Jordan, who was with her child and husband, asked Kalinle why she was attacking her, the outlet reported, citing court documents.
“It’s because you’re white and I hate white people,” Kalinle told Jordan, The Oregonian reported, quoting a probable cause affidavit.
Jordan was treated for her injuries at a hospital, according to Fox12 Oregon.
Kalinle, who is black, was booked into Multnomah County Jail on Saturday and released on Monday, according to jail records.
