Would you try a donut and fried chicken sandwich? KFC is releasing one nationwide
Sure, you know chicken and waffles, but what about fried chicken and donuts? KFC says it’s a thing and it’s coming to a restaurant near you.
KFC is taking the “latest rising fried chicken trend” nationwide with the release of Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts, the company said in a news release.
Kentucky Fried Chicken and Donuts features two menu items:
- Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts Basket meal: chicken on the bone or chicken tenders with one donut. It’s also available as a big basket meal with two donuts.
- Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts Sandwich: a juicy, hand-breaded chicken filet between two fully glazed donuts.
Sound appetizing? The two items will be released at participating KFC restaurants on Feb. 24, but you’ll have to be quick; they’re only available for a limited time, according to the release.
“Chicken & Donuts is the newest fried chicken trend we’re bringing to all of America,” chief marketing officer Andrea Zahumensky said in the release. “But not just any donut would do. Only a donut that’s glazed-to-order and served piping hot every single time can stand next to our hand-breaded fried chicken. It’s a finger lickin’ good dish filled with glaze and glory.”
KFC initially tested the sandwich in September, Business Insider reported. It was only available in 40 stores in Virginia and Pennsylvania but Twitter erupted nonetheless.
The cherry on top of the nationwide release is The Colonel’s (Chicken &) Donuts Shop, a pop-up eatery at 615 North La Brea Ave. in Los Angeles. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 22 and will only serve Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts.
The first 50 customers will receive a free sweet and savory treat called the Colonel’s Dozen: six chicken tenders and six donuts, the release said.

While some Twitter users were intrigued by the new dishes, an overwhelming majority doesn’t seem likely to give Chicken and Donuts a try.
“This is straight out of the Los Angeles County Fair,” one user wrote.
“Oh dear,” wrote another, “this pairing should not be.”
