Makeup fans, this one’s for you: Sephora just announced big opening of 100 new stores
Makeup retailer Sephora is set to bring its treasure trove of beauty products to 100 more locations this year, the company says.
It will be the largest single-year expansion in the company’s history, according to a news release.
Sephora announced the news on Tuesday, explaining that the new stores will be spread across 75 cities in North America with specific focus on “ local neighborhoods and community centers,” the release said.
While a full list of new stores hasn’t been reported, the company says Charlotte, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee, and San Jose, California can all expect new stores featuring “sleek” architecture and visual design.
“Our focus continues to be on anticipating the beauty needs and desires of our diverse clients across North America,” Sephora Americas CEO Jean André Rougeot said in the release. “As we look at ways to continue to be more inclusive and accessible, brick and mortar continues to be a huge opportunity for us to deepen emotional connections with our clients and local communities.”
The new stores will also make use of more cost-effective materials in an effort to invest more in client experiences and employee development, the release said.
Some new stores will feature a smaller 4,000-square-foot layout to better “integrate into street and local center locations,” the company said. A typical Sephora store is roughly 5,500 square feet, according to a 2017 report by CNBC.
Sephora says these more local locations are an attempt at providing a more customized experience for shoppers.
“In looking at where and how today’s beauty lover is shopping, there’s no doubt that there’s a trend toward more local shopping destinations,” John Gaul, senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in the release. “This year, clients can expect to see more Sephora stores not only in malls and high-traffic shopping centers, but also closer to home. These locations are meant to complement our existing fleet and give clients a more personalized and customized experience.”
