The Trump administration has announced that it would roll back a Biden-era extension of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans that would have allowed hundreds of thousands of people to renew the deportation protections through October 2026. The development has created uncertainty in Florida, home to 59% of all Venezuelan beneficiaries of the federal program, which temporarily protects people from countries in turmoil from deportation and grants them work permits.
The Miami Herald recognizes that there are many beneficiaries of the program in our South Florida communities. That’s why we want to help answer questions about the effects and mechanisms of this policy roll back.
