Watch a shark casually swim just feet away from people in Miami Beach

As if we all don’t have enough to worry about with Florida reopening.

If you’re brave enough to hit the beach these days after a months-long lockdown due to coronavirus, you may encounter something else beside germs.

Sharks.

Yes, sharks are in the water, their home. They’ve always been there, of course. But lately, people have been noticing them getting a little to close to shore for comfort.

In other words, social distancing means zero to these fish, who are doing what comes naturally.

Renee Alexis Perez was at the beach on Eighth Street and Collins Avenue in Miami Beach on Tuesday afternoon when she noticed something dark swimming about 10 feet from where she was wading. Perez was in the shallow waters about 8 to 10 feet offshore.

“I saw everyone pointing so I went in the water to catch it on camera,” she told the Miami Herald. “It was very close.”

Though Perez was unsure what kind of shark it was, it didn’t seem dangerous and bothered no one, eventually swimming off.

“It was about four to five feet long,” said the Miami Beach woman. “Harmless. It may have been a baby.”

It’s possibly a nurse shark, which are known to swim close to the beach and usually do not present a danger to humans.
