Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday the appointment of Daniel Espino to the School Board of Miami-Dade County.

The designation is effective Tuesday.

DeSantis was able to appoint Espino to the board because School Board Member Christi Fraga chose to campaign for mayor of Doral, an election that will be decided next month in a runoff. Florida’s resign-to-run law required that she leave her post on the School Board prior to Tuesday’s swearing-in of new board members.

Espino is a partner and attorney of Bercow Radell Fernandez Larkin & Tapanes Law, the governor’s office said in a news release. He is a former Miami Springs city councilman and is the current chairman of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
