What should the new Miami school superintendent tackle first? Let him know in our survey

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will have a new superintendent on Friday.

His name is José Dotres, and he’s a veteran of the school district, having begun his career in 1988 as a teacher and reading coach at Frederick Douglass Elementary School in Overtown and South Pointe Elementary in South Beach.

He is replacing Alberto Carvalho, who is leaving after 14 years as superintendent to head up Los Angeles schools.

José Dotres, left, was selected to lead Miami-Dade County Public Schools on Jan. 24.

Dotres, 59, who left the district last February to become deputy superintendent of Collier County Schools in Naples, has said on his first day back he will take “a temperature check” of the district.

What do you think he should do first? Have your say in our poll below. It’s not scientific, but we want to know what’s on your mind as the new superintendent takes office. If you can’t see the poll, turn off your ad blocker.
