Hollywood police said Monday that officers arrested a man last week in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found on the beach the day after Christmas.

A “passerby” saw the body around 7 a.m. in the sand off Cleveland Street. Police identified her as 56-year-old Heather Asendorf. According to her Facebook page, Asendorf lived in Hollywood.

Hollywood officers along with members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 27-year-old Brandon McCray last Tuesday at 1214 N. 17th Court in Hollywood, the department said in a statement Monday.

His probable cause affidavit was still sealed as of Monday, so information about what led to his arrest was not immediately available.

McCray was arrested on two counts of sexual battery with a weapon, kidnapping, battery and battery with strangulation, according to court records. A judge set his bond at $770,000, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office jail records.

McCray has a pending aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case in Broward County court in which he’s accused of shooting at two car repossession employees who were towing away his Mitsubishi Outlander on Sept. 26, 2023, according to the Pembroke Pines police arrest report.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
