Miami-Dade deputies serving child-porn warrant fatally shoot man, sheriff’s office says
Deputies serving a search warrant in a child pornography investigation in southwest Miami-Dade County shot and killed a man Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office said.
Special Response Team deputies arrived at the home on Southwest 155th Street and 102nd Place in the Palmetto Estates neighborhood around 5:30 a.m. to serve the warrant, which was part of a year-long investigation into child pornography. The alleged victims ranged from infants to 6-year-olds, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies announced themselves multiple times and demanded anyone inside to come out of the house, said Detective Samantha Choon, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman. Two adults and a child were safely removed from the house, Choon said.
But, a man then came to the door armed with a gun, Choon said, and two deputies opened fire, shooting him. The deputies rendered medical aid to him, but Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics declared him dead.
Deputies then saw another man walk into the hallway, and he was taken into custody, Choon said. The sheriff’s office has not released anyone’s name. It is not clear if either man is part of the investigation.
The shooting is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
