More victims have come forward after a longtime Miami chess instructor was arrested on charges of molesting a student, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Christopher Stormont, 50, who’s been teaching children for more than 30 years, was caught allegedly touching a 6-year-old boy inappropriately during one of his classes, detectives laid out in his arrest affidavit.

Last month, a 6-year-old student told his mother after class that Stormont had touched his lower parts over his clothing, the arrest report read. She alerted law enforcement and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Stormont at his Kendall chess center.

Stormont started teaching chess in 1991. Now, he has his own business, The Stormont Kings Chess Program, 8353 SW 124th St. — where he holds classes, tournaments, family game nights and camps, according to his website.

He was jailed at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center but was transferred to Metro West Detention Center since his July 29 arrest. Court records show that he has since pleaded not guilty to the lewd and lascivious molestation on a child charge. It is unclear if additional charges will be filed.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Bureau detectives are asking that if you have been victimized by Mr. Stormont, to please come forward. Special Victims Bureau detectives may be reached at 305-418-7200.
