Miami Beach police officer relieved of duty after he was jailed for domestic battery
A Miami Beach police officer was jailed after Homestead Police were called to his home over allegations he pushed and hurt his girlfriend, according to police.
Jonathan Blanco, 30, who has been employed by the City of Miami Beach since 2019, was arrested on a domestic battery charge on Saturday after getting into an argument with his girlfriend of three years, the mother of his child, according to his arrest report.
Blanco and his girlfriend were having a verbal argument in their Homestead home on Friday when he pushed her, causing her to fall back into a doorframe and cut her arm, police say.
Police say Blanco then left the home but turned himself in the next day at a Homestead Police station and was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.
“In accordance with departmental policy, Mr. Blanco has been relieved of duty — pending the outcome of the investigation led by the Homestead Police Department, said Officer Christoper Bess, spokesman for Miami Beach Police in a statement to the Miami Herald.
Court records show Blanco has since bonded out of jail and has a stay-away order from the victim. An attorney for Blanco did not want to comment on his arrest.
Meanwhile, another South Florida law enforcement official was also arrested Saturday on the same charge.
Miami police lieutenant, Thomas Carroll, 47, was arrested on a domestic violence charge following an incident at his home.
