Miami-Dade police arrested a man they say fatally shot another man during an dispute in Florida City traffic Thursday morning.

The shooting happened at SW 344th St., just east of U.S. 1 around 7:43 a.m., according to the arrest report for 18-year-old Kendy Javier Torres Figueras, who was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center Friday morning on a charge of second-degree murder.

The victim, who Miami-Dade police identified as 22-year-old Marco Ortiz Rodriguez, was in the rear passenger seat of a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling west on SW 344th St. A 1994 Toyota Corolla driven by Torres Figueras pulled alongside the truck and displayed a handgun, according to the report.

Ortiz Rodriguez got out of the truck and demanded Torres Figueras stop threatening him, the report states. Torres Figueras then opened fire, hitting Ortiz Rodriguez several times in the torso, according to the report.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue flew Ortiz Rodriguez to Jackson South Medical Center where he died from his wounds, police said.

Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for Miami-Dade police, which is investigating the case, told the Herald that the two men are related by marriage.

The shooting was captured by a nearby surveillance camera, the arrest report states.

Torres Figueras surrendered later in the day to the Florida City Police Department, according to the report.

As of Friday, he was being held in county jail with bond yet to be set by a judge. Information on his legal representation was not immediately available.
