Man found shot on a Florida City sidewalk died at the hospital, police say

A shooting in Florida City early Thursday morning has left one man dead, according to police.

At about 7:40 a.m., officers “received a gunshot detection alert in the area of Palm Drive and U.S. 1,” while multiple calls started coming in of a person shot, according to Sgt. David Hunsberger of the Florida City Police Department.

Officers arrived to find on the sidewalk an adult male, who police have not identified, with a gunshot wound to the chest. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted the mortally wounded man to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, where he was declared dead, Hunsberger said.

Miami-Dade police has taken over the investigation.
