Man shot dead in car after visiting friend at Miami house

After leaving a gathering at a friend’s house in Miami, a man was shot dead as he climbed into his car trying to escape a gunman, according to police.

“He ran to his car thinking he’d be safe,” said Miami police spokeswoman Frederica Burden. “But someone shot him in his car.”

According to Burden, the man was walking in the first block of Northwest 26th Avenue when a group of people approached him. He spotted one of them holding a gun.

“It is unclear the relationship between the victim and the subject,” Burden said.

The shooting happened at 2:24 a.m. Sunday. The shooter took off in a mid-size vehicle, heading north on Northwest 26th Avenue toward First Street.

Police, who identified the dead man as Miguel Valdes, 24, say they don’t have a motive.

“We need people to come forward with information because we need to know what happened to this young man and bring closure for his family,” Burden said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
