Miami-Dade police say they have identified the driver of an April hit-and-run crash that left one person dead and six others injured.

Now they just need the community’s help in finding him.

According to police, Ricky Francois, 26, was behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger when it slammed into a minivan in Northwest Miami-Dade April 19.

The deadly crash happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Northwest 119th Street and 22nd Avenue, near Miami Dade College North Campus. Francois, police say, ran away from the crash scene before officers arrived.

In the minivan were seven friends — men in their 20s — who were on their way home from a weekend trip to Sarasota when the Charger rear-ended them.

Christopher Lopez, 23, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, where he died. The six other men were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Shortly after the crash, Lopez’s friends and family gathered outside Miami-Dade police headquarters to ask the person responsible for the crash to come forward.

On Friday, police did not say what led them to Francois.

Francois — who is out of jail on bond for a 2020 fleeing and eluding case, according to court records — now has an arrest warrant for vehicular homicide.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective E. Diaz at 305-471-2400 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
