A boat with $825,000 of cocaine got intercepted on the Miami River, Coast Guard says
The U.S. Coast Guard said it thought the people operating La Temperance on the Miami River might not have the proper credentials for doing so. What they say they found Monday would make the boat’s name, meaning moderation in pleasures, seem like an inside joke.
Then again, maybe it’s a matter of perspective — maybe 33 pounds (15 kilograms) of cocaine is moderation to some people.
That much cocaine, at the low-end Miami street price of $55/gram according to Narcotics News, comes out to $825,000.
When the Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection got on the La Temperance to check out the mariner credentials, the Coast Guard said, a CBP K9 agent sniffed out 20 packages of cocaine.
The Coast Guard said the discovery came while officers “inspected common spaces.”
