Man killed in Sunday’s police-involved shooting at McDonald’s identified

TUESDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: The name of the deceased as well as details of the incident have been added.

A disturbance call at a McDonald’s Sunday night ended in a police-involved fatal shooting, Fort Lauderdale police say.

Michael Ferguson, 54, of Vero Beach died at Broward Health Medical Center after the incident. Three Fort Lauderdale police officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay, as is standard after an officer-involved shooting. Also standard is the investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The 9:10 p.m. call about a gun-waving male brought police to 4032 Ocean Blvd., the address of a McDonald’s restaurant.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that Mr. Ferguson may have intentionally created a dangerous sitaution which forced officers to engage him,” Fort Lauderdale police Det. Ali Adamson said via email.
