He was out on bond for hitting someone, records show. Now he’s charged with murder.
A man out on bond after being charged with aggravated battery last year has been arrested again — this time on a charge of premeditated murder after detectives say he shot and killed another man outside a Lauderdale Lakes gas station last month.
Jimmy Petit, 24, was being held with no bond at Broward’s Main Jail.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Petit shot and killed Cliff Ismael, 26, after an altercation outside the Citgo gas station, 4449 N. SR 7, on Oct. 14.
At the time, BSO said there was an argument between “two groups.” Detectives say Petit walked toward his car, got a gun, returned and began shooting at the crowd, according to a news release.
Ismael was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.
Court records records show Petit was out on a $15,500 bond stemming from a February 2017 case.
According to an arrest report, Petit and two other men confronted another man they had been in an argument with over a soccer game. Deputies said at the time that Petit and his accomplices first threw rocks at the victim, but missed. Then Petit hit the victim with a tire iron, according to the report. Petit and the two other men left, but then came back, deputies said, this time with a pipe and machetes,
Deputies were called and the three were arrested. The case is still pending.
