Before deadly wrong-way crash on I-95, he did something terrible to his girlfriend, cops say

One hour before driving north on Interstate-95's southbound lanes and causing a four-car collision, William Ronald Ferguson had stabbed his girlfriend twice in the neck, according to Miami police.

The couple had arrived in Miami from Ohio with a 1-year-old baby a few hours before the crash. Around 7 p.m. Thursday, Ferguson, 27, went downstairs to get their belongings from the car. The victim told the police that when he returned, he was acting "paranoid" and was convinced people were watching him.

Ferguson locked himself in a room and began arguing with his girlfriend from the other side of the door. He soon exited with a knife, stabbing the girlfriend twice on the left side of her neck and once in the arm, police say.

Ferguson was believed to be "possibly on drugs" during the attack, according to the report.

After the woman shrieked for help, Ferguson fled in his SUV.

Within an hour, he drove the wrong way on I-95, causing a four-car collision that killed one driver and shut down all southbound lanes for the evening near NW 103rd St.. A 24-year-old man was killed after being ejected from his Nissan and striking a guardrail, police said. Another driver was hospitalized.

Both Ferguson and his girlfriend, whom police did not identify, were separately transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. The baby, in a different room during the attack, was unharmed.

Ferguson has been taken into custody and charged with battery, according to the report. Charges in regards to the collision are still pending, according to press release by FHP.
