Video shows woman fighting off would-be attacker. He then rapes another woman, cops say
She was looking down at her phone and making her way to her front door when he tried to grab her, new surveillance footage released by Miami police shows.
Then she went into fight mode and managed to break free.
She ran off and he can be seen in the video gingerly walking away.
But the story didn't end there, police said.
On Monday, police released the video in hopes of catching the man detectives have identified as Tavares Anthony Canty, 34.
Police say it was about 7 a.m. Friday when Canty tried to grab the woman in the Little Haiti area unsuccessfully. About an hour later, police said, he entered the home of another woman and raped her at gunpoint.
Kiara Delva, a Miami police spokeswoman, said Monday that they are hoping the clear video will be the ticket to finding Canty.
"It is important for anyone who recognizes this person to call us," she said. "Detectives are working aggressively to try to find him."
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami Police Department's Special Victims Unit at 305-603-6300 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
