Looking to buy, rent or protect your home? Check out North Miami’s housing fair
Looking to buy or rent? Or wanting to protect your home?
If so, North Miami is hosting a Fair Housing Fair on Sunday, April 26, at the Griffing Community Center.
The event is free, and it’ll feature banks, mortgage lenders, legal experts and city representatives who can answer questions on all things housing — be it buying a home, renting a place or protecting the home you live in.
Greater Miami has one of the lowest homeownership rates among the country’s major metropolitan areas. Last year, roughly 58% of Miami metro-area residents owned the home they live in, down from 63% the year before — a drop that reflects years of rising costs and incomes that haven’t kept pace.
And of those Miami-Dade residents who rent — roughly 45% of the population — nearly two-thirds are cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their monthly income on housing, while 36% spend at least half of their paycheck on rent, Census data shows.
Hosted by North Miami Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin, the Fair Housing Fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at 12220 Griffing Blvd.
