Man sitting in car in Miami Beach critically injured after ‘targeted’ shooting, cops say

A man was shot while sitting in a parked car on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach early Monday morning, police said.

The critically wounded man — whom police did not identify — was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was undergoing surgery, according to police.

“Based off preliminary information gathered, detectives believe this was a targeted incident and not a random attack,” added Ernesto Rodriguez, a police spokesman.

Miami Beach police received reports of a shooting around 6:26 a.m. in the area of Collins Avenue and 29th Street.

Police shut down the southbound lane of traffic at Collins Avenue and 30th Street for the investigation. Helicopter video taken by WSVN showed some backed-up traffic in the area being redirected northbound.

“Moments after the incident, possible subjects were seen fleeing the scene,” the department said in a tweet. “It is unknown if they were directly involved. Detectives are actively following several leads.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
