Miami-Dade police confirm human head found on Key Biscayne is from a male’s body
A human head found on the beach of Key Biscayne on Tuesday is from a male, Miami-Dade police confirmed Wednesday.
The head was found by a beach worker after 8 a.m. at 251 Crandon Blvd., according to Miami-Dade police, whose homicide detectives took over investigating the case.
Detective Andre Martin, a spokesman for the department, said police are waiting for the medical examiner to identify the body.
Police have not ruled out anything, Martin said, including if the body part is from a homicide or a missing person.
The investigation into the head coincides with the search of a 19-year-old man who went missing Saturday evening after being swept up in a rip current in Miami Beach. Martin said it is still too soon to say if the two cases are related.
“We’re not discounting any possibilities,” he said.
Officer Christopher Bess, spokesman with the Miami Beach Police Department, said Wednesday that the department is still investigating the disappearance of the 19-year-old man, Victor Castaneda, as a missing person case.
