A human head washed up on Key Biscayne. Medical examiner working to identify the body

A human head washed ashore on a Key Biscayne beach Tuesday morning and authorities said they were still working to identify the person Wednesday morning.

At about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, the Miami Dade Police Department arrived at 251 Crandon Blvd. after receiving reports of a human head on the beach.

A beach worker found the head, police say.

Police say detectives were on the scene and are working with the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the individual. The Medical Examiner’s Office told the Herald Wednesday morning the “case is still pending.”

A spokesman for Miami-Dade police, which is investigating the incident, said on Tuesday afternoon that it is too early to tell if the incident is part of any recent cases, including that of a teenage boy who went missing while swimming off Miami Beach Saturday.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more details become available.
