A man was arrested Sunday morning after a fatal hit-and-run in Hialeah.

According to police, the driver of a white Nissan Sentra ran a stop sign around 6:20 p.m. Saturday near West Second Avenue and 20th Street, and hit a Ford Excursion with six people inside.

One of the passengers, 66-year-old Amelia Caridad Diaz, died after being ejected from the SUV, which then landed on her, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS4. The other passengers in the vehicle had minor injuries.

The Nissan driver, later identified as 25-year-old Ernesto Izquierdo Gonzalez, ran to a nearby food market, police said. He was followed by witnesses and then taken into custody, said Carl Zogby, spokesman for Hialeah police.

Gonzalez was charged with leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in a death and resisting an officer without violenc. He was also driving with a suspended license, Miami-Dade County records show.
