Photos and video: What the scene looked like after a Miami-Dade police officer was shot

A Miami-Dade robbery detective was shot in the head and remained in the hospital on Tuesday. A suspect was killed in the shootout in Liberty City.

The shootings happened after a car chase Monday night. Sources told the Miami Herald the suspect was wanted for an armed robbery in Dania Beach. Streets around the shooting scene remained closed Tuesday morning.

A crowd of officers from across South Florida were seen waiting outside Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, praying for the injured officer. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez were also there.
