Morning dog walk led to a knife in the eye for unsuspecting woman, report says
New details reveal what transpired in the heart of downtown Miami when a man stabbed a woman out for a walk Tuesday morning. The attack shut down parts of downtown after the suspect took hours to surrender.
Raydean Johnson, a 49-year-old homeless man, is facing charges of attempted felony murder, aggravated battery, armed criminal mischief and resisting an officer with violence, his newly released arrest report read.

Around 10:40 a.m., the unidentified woman was walking with her dog along Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast Eighth Street when she noticed Johnson sitting on the sidewalk, police said. She walked past him but then suddenly felt someone push her to the ground.
Johnson grabbed her back as he sent several punches flying, hitting her face and back of her head, she told detectives. He then slammed her head into the ground multiple times as she screamed for help — she was stabbed sometime during the attack.
A good Samaritan heard her screams and ran over to help. He pushed and kicked Johnson off the woman. Johnson ran away.
Police were called and the victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. She received stitches to her nose and treatment for a broken left orbital bone with “permanent disfigurement,” the report read.
Arriving officers were flagged down by witnesses and bystanders, pointing them to Johnson nearby. A standoff of about three hours followed as Miami Police Crisis Negotiator Sgt. Michael Valladares tried to talk Johnson into surrendering.
During the negotiation, Johnson defaced a building by engraving “Repent All” and other words onto a wall. He also screamed at police, “If you officers come near me, I’m gonna stab you like I stabbed that b---- in the eye,” the report read.
Eventually, officers were able to taser, tackle and disarm Johnson before arresting him.
He was also taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be treated before being transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was still being held as of early Wednesday afternoon. There was no attorney information listed for him.
