Two words sparked a legal battle between developers in Fisher Island and Doral
Just two words — a short description of a neighborhood — has sparked a lawsuit between two Miami-Dade developers.
The Mansions on Fisher Island, a community of the largest luxury single-family homes on the private island, is being sued for alleged trademark infringement of the registered phrase “The Mansions.” Devtov Group, LLC, developer of The Mansions at Doral, filed the suit against Madar Group USA, its CEO David Emmanuel Cohen, Davco Management and multiple Fisher Island LLCs late last month.
Devtov Group filed for the federal trademark of “The Mansions” in 2022, though it’s been using the phrase since 2013. Since then, the complaint alleges the group has built recognition, won awards and made millions in connection with The Mansions brand.
In a statement, the developer wrote that “the complaint seeks to protect Devtov’s federally registered trademarks and the reputation the company established over many years.”
Reached by the Miami Herald, a spokesperson for The Mansions on Fisher Island said Tuesday that it had not yet been served with the suit.
“It is our desire to reach an amicable resolution,” the spokesperson added.
The complaint states the Fisher Island developers began using “The Mansions on Fisher Island” in promotions in 2024 and filed for the same “The Mansions” trademark as Devtov, as well as “The Mansions Group” and “The Mansions on Fisher Island,” in 2026.

On Feb. 13, 2026, in response to a cease-and-desist letter from Devtov Group, developer Madar Group USA allegedly expressed that “‘mansions’ is merely descriptive and proposing that Devtov surrender its registration,” according to the complaint.
Devtov claims Madar’s use of “The Mansions” continued after the cease-and-desist requests.
Part of Devtov’s concerns include that the public will falsely believe there is a connection between the two developers and misattribute their projects to each other.
“The goal is to help avoid marketplace confusion and preserve the integrity of a brand that reflects Devtov’s longstanding investment and commitment to excellence,” Devtov Group said in a statement. “Devtov remains focused on what it has always done best, creating exceptional residential communities with high quality and craftsmanship that have defined the company since its founding.”
Devtov is asking that the Fisher Island project stop using The Mansions name, destroy all of its promotional material with it and pay damages.
