Body of missing Biscayne Bay charter boat passenger found, FWC says
After one of eight passengers went missing from a chartered boat in Biscayne Bay, a body was recovered Sunday from the water, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson said.
The vessel’s captain and the group were aboard a 39-foot boat Friday, traveling from Hobie Beach toward the Miami River, a FWC spokesperson said. One of the passengers noticed someone was missing from the boat, and they began searching for them.
The captain notified authorities about the missing person, a FWC spokesperson said. Law enforcement agencies continued the search and pulled a body from the water on Sunday.
“Out of respect for the victim and their loved ones, identification is still pending, and we are unable to release any information regarding their identity at this time,” a FWC spokesperson said.
But the U.S. Coast Guard said Sunday 23-year-old Akin Liverpool was on a charter boat that went from Hobie Beach to the Miami River via Biscayne Bay, and that was the last anyone saw of him. A spokesperson for the Coast Guard didn’t respond Monday to a request for identification.
No additional information was available, a FWC spokesperson said. It’s an active investigation, and a full report of the incident will be available once it’s complete.
