Frederica Wilson steps back, Haiti rises, Miramar designer shines
It’s important to appreciate people while they are still here. Congresswoman Frederick Wilson is stepping away from politics after a decorated career in public service. Her absence has led to many younger peers racing to occupy her former position.
June is Black Music Month and it got off to a somber start with the deaths of singer Peabo Bryson, famous for Disney anthems like “Whole New World” from the “Aladdin” movie soundtrack. Philadelphia musician and producer Dexter Wansel also died this past week and was known for the dynamic way he helped shape the Philly soul sound.
Moments like these remind us in the Black community of the persistent need to celebrate joy, just as South Florida’s Haitian community is rooting loudly and proudly for their country’s national soccer team ahead of the World Cup.
