Publix open? What about garbage pickup? See what’s running on MLK Day in Miami
Don’t worry, College Football Playoff fans — all your favorite supermarkets and big-box retailers will be open on Martin Luther King Day for any last minute tailgate or watch party munchies or drinks.
As for the public sector, many of those services will be unplugged on the holiday, observed by some as the MLK Day of Service.
Here’s what’s running and what’s not:
Mass Transit
Miami-Dade: Regular weekday service for Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover and MetroConnect. You can also reserve or cancel an STS trip by calling 305-871-1111.
Broward: Regular weekday service for Broward County Transit. While county offices are closed, help for paratransit Tops and bus trip planning will be available from 6 a.m. forward at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302). Still will also be at Broward Main Terminal, and the Lauderhill Transit Center from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the Northeast Transit Center, in Pompano Beach, from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tri-Rail: Regular weekday service, and added trains to serve the Miamk-Indiana game at Hard Rock Stadium.

Garbage
Miami: No garbage or recycling collection.
Miami-Dade: No garbage collection, but there will be recycling pickup. The next garbage collection for Monday customers will be Thursday, Jan. 22. The trash and recycling centers, home chemical collection centers, the North Dade Landfill and the regional transfer stations all will be closed.
Broward: Garbage and recycling will be collected as normal. The Broward County Landfill will be closed.
Fort Lauderdale: Garbage and recycling will be collected as normal.
Other municipalities: Check with your city or garbage collector.
U.S. mail
No mail delivery aside from Priority Mail Express. Post office branches will be closed.
Stock markets
Both the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will be closed.
County offices, courts and schools
Miami-Dade: Closed.
Broward: Closed.
Libraries
Miami-Dade: All locations closed.
Broward: All locations closed.
