Coast Guard stops five Cuban migrants at sea off the Florida Keys
A U.S. Coast Guard crew stopped five Cuban migrants at sea off the Florida Keys Saturday afternoon.
The people were on board a small, partially submerged, six-foot “rustic” boat, the Coast Guard said. The vessel was floating about 30 miles south of the Middle Keys city of Marathon.
A 33-foot patrol boat launched from Coast Guard Station Marathon to pick them up after someone reported their location to the agency’s station in Key West.
All five were transferred to the Cutter William Trump, which took them back to Cuba, according to the Coast Guard.
