More than a week after Broward deputies began the hunt for a person who was “pleasuring himself” before attacking a woman from behind, they’ve apprehended a 17-year-old who they say was behind the crime.

The teenager, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was charged on Friday with one count of attempted sexual battery. The Broward Sheriff’s Office said it used “technological resources and old-fashioned police work ... to make this arrest.”

During the afternoon of April 8, the 17-year-old was seen “pleasuring himself” in a parking lot near the 16500 block of Golf Club Road, deputies say. He approached a woman sitting on a grassy hill from behind and lunged at her, surveillance video showed.

The two struggled on the ground for a few seconds before he got up and ran to a nearby scooter and rode away.

The teenager was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing.
